Joint renovation in the busy old town of Cologne with the modern paving grout ROMPOX® - D2000.

Joint renovation in the Cologne Salzgasse

With its 2000-year history, Cologne is not only one of the most populous (1.1 million inhabitants), but also one of the most historic municipalities in North Rhine-Westphalia. The Salzgasse (In Kölsch: "En d'r Salzgass") is a typical old town alley in the epicentre of the historic and tourist old town. Between Heumarkt and the Rhine, the joint seal of the Salzgasse was to be renovated. As in almost every city, countless paved areas are in need of renovation and are real tripping hazards due to a lack of joint sealing, which not infrequently leads to claims for damages. Contamination of the joints, e.g. by cigarettes and broken glass, makes the paving, which is beautiful in itself, look very unsightly in its overall appearance.

After intensive consultation with ROMEX®, the City of Cologne decided to renovate with the 2-component pavement joint mortar ROMPOX® - D2000, which was carried out by a trained application partner. The material is designed for high traffic loads and is suitable both for new joints and for the renovation of existing paved areas. The particularly fast traffic release is an important factor for public areas (At 20°C: can be walked on after 6 hours, fully loadable after 24 hours). The ROMEX® trained application partner worked with air pressure and high pressure water jet to clean the old, defective and dirty joints of the paving. The joint was then grouted with ROMPOX® - D2000. The water permeability of the joint is guaranteed even after grouting!

The new joint is slip-resistant, sweeper-proof, resistant to high-pressure cleaners and visually very appealing. Not only the city of Cologne, but also local residents and restaurants are pleased with the new appearance of the renovated area.
