Durable joint closure for unbound construction in the city of Hanau thanks to the flexible pavement joint mortar ROMPOX® - FLEX-FUGE.

Flexible joint closure in Hanau

In mid-2014, the paving work was completed in Hanau, in the heavily trafficked pedestrian zone. Conventional jointing material was then swept in. Subsequently, it became clear that the joint material was repeatedly blown out by the downward-curved exhaust pipes of buses or removed from the joints by vacuum sweepers..

In 2016, the city of Hanau approached ROMEX® for intensive on-site consultation. Due to the underlying construction method, the viscoplastic and proven paving joint mortar ROMPOX® - FLEX-FUGE was installed for a permanent joint closure in order to avoid maintenance costs due to regular re-sanding (approx. every two months). The advantage of this flexibilised special mortar: the concrete block paving can be laid in unbound construction with a bound base course and thus at low cost. However, one does not have to do without the advantages of a fixed joint.
