New look thanks to ROMEX^® system guarantee

Canada Place is a world-renowned tourist destination in Vancouver, Canada. Many of Vancouver's nine million annual visitors are hosted here. Of these, approximately one million dock at the pier on one of the 200 cruise ships. In 2016, the owners commissioned a renovation of the ageing paving system and a new identity for the Plaza Deck "North Point". After thorough analysis and testing, they chose the full ROMEX^® system (RSG) consisting of trass bedding, bonding slurry and a high quality 2-component paving grout that would withstand the extreme challenges of the site.

The North Point Plaza renovation had several design challenges. First, it sits above underground parking and offices, with severely limited structure height for code-compliant construction, including the issue of drainage as there was almost no slope. Secondly, the system has to absorb significant forces and movements from the huge cruise ships docking on it. Thirdly, all the work had to be done in the few winter months when the cruise seasons are on break.

Only the permeable, resilient and quick-to-install solution from ROMEX^® could solve all these problems and meet the constraints of the construction schedule. ROMEX^® provided chief erection, on-the-job training and on-site supervision to ensure a successful installation.
