ROMEX® donates to Ugly Christmas Day at SOS Children's Villages
In the middle of the pre-Christmas season, our employees appeared in ugly Christmas sweaters. The National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day was first introduced in the USA in 2011 and is always celebrated on the third Friday in December. With kitschy Christmas clothes and having fun in the foreground, it strengthens the anticipation for the weekend. Particularly noteworthy in this context is that the initiators use this curious holiday for charitable or social purposes. Particularly noteworthy in this context is that the initiators use this curious holiday for charitable or social purposes. For example, the National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day has been cooperating with the Save the Children campaign since 2014 and has the motto "make the world better with a sweater".

For each employee who wore such a sweater, ROMEX® will donate € 10 to the SOS Children's Villages. Altogether over 500 € came together on this day.

With solid jointing sand against weeds

Property owners know the problem: Patios and driveways have been newly laid with high quality paving stones, the work has been done well and everything looks clean and tidy – and then the weeds begin to sprout in the joints after just a short time. Nobody needs this hassle. To avoid this problem from reoccurring, ROMEX® GmbH have developed a solution.

Simple application, intelligent against weeds

The new ROMEX® - JOINTING SAND NP ("NP" stands for natural & polymer binding agent) is a weed preventing jointing sand, which is ideal for narrow joints from 1 millimetre, especially with interlocking stone paving surfaces with light traffic loads, thanks to it’s easy and quick application. Particularly clever: The binding agent – improved in 2017, with a combination of five different natural, organic and polymer components – ensures that small cracks in the joints, repair themselves when in contact with water i.e. rainwater. Bert Meurer, main managing director at ROMEX® GmbH, is convinced by his product: „ROMEX® - JOINTING SAND NP is the intelligent way to beat weeds, especially for tightly laid paving systems with joint widths between 1 and 3 millimetres. Since the sand only needs to be worked in and watered, it is therefore easy to apply and perfect for private users for paving joint repair as well as for professional use in paving stone new construction. “

Keep wetting the joint until it no longer absorbs any more water

During application the jointing sand is poured onto the dry paving stones and worked into the joints using a broom to the top edge of the stones. Then the paved stone surface is swept with a fine hair broom until there is no longer any sand on the stone surface. Then the joints are wet using a spray nozzle that is set to a fine spray mist. The joint is wet until it no longer absorbs any more water. „This process is repeated after one to twoe hours, in order to ensure that all the sand is thoroughly soaked through“, recommends Frank Speichert, Managing Director for national sales.

How do you keep the joints permanently maintained? Care should be taken, to ensure that no organic matter i.e. soil, rotting leaves and grass is left on the surface of the joints, these should be cleaned regularly off the stone surface and out of the joints. Use general purpose algae and moss remover. In order to prevent weed growth and displacement of paving stones, regular re-filling of the joints to the top edge of the paved stone / slab covering, should be carried out. The best results are achieved by completely filling the joint. The jointing sand becomes plastic, when wet, so that any settling cracks or small damage that may occur, can be smoothed out with a smoothing iron. When repairing paving stone joints, care should be taken that the whole joint is free of roots and organic matter. Use a general purpose algae and moss remover in the joints before using ROMEX® - JOINTING SAND NP.

Tested quality ROMEX® - JOINTING SAND NP

An independent assessment by the eco-Institut in Cologne showed that ROMEX® - JOINTING SAND NP meets all requirements of the AgBB scheme, which means that no polluting substances are used in the product ( test certificate ). ROMEX® - JOINTING SAND NP is already integrated in the ROMEX® App, so that it is easy to calculate the theoretical consumption using the stone and joint dimensions. The ROMEX® App is available for download as APPLE and ANDROID versions in the corresponding stores.

And last but not least: In order to achieve the right colour tone to match the paving stones, ROMEX® GmbH offers three different colours: sand-neutral, sand-stonegrey and sand-basalt.
